Due to the current circumstances of the pandemic. Leadership has decided that it is in the best interest of our membership to postpone any in-person meetings until further notice. If you have any question or concerns please let your stewards know and us. We will do our best to address any issues. Stay safe everyone and we hope to see you all soon.
It is in the best interest of our membership that we postpone the final meeting of the 2020 year. We will reevaluate the situation next month to see if it would be a good idea to host a meeting then. We hope for all our membership to be staying safe and are very sorry to make this call. For any question or concerns, reach out to us or your stewards.
Due to the increasing infection rates in the state of Colorado and increasing restrictions in various counties, leadership has decided that the best course of action is to postpone our monthly Saturday meeting for the month of November. With any questions or concerns please contact us or your designated steward.
Local 47 would like to remind our membership that Tuesday November 3rd, 2020 is this years Election Day. Just as our own contracts, voting in Local, State, and Federal is the best way to voice your opinions and to have them be used for change. The International endorses Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Kamala Harris, and Governor John Hickenlooper for the election this year. Their labor policies align them to strengthen our unions and our abilities to bargain with our companies. We respect the views and beliefs of our membership and realize that these candidates may not personally align with your views. This endorsement in no way is meant to shift your position. Make a plan and make your voice heard this year, these choices are bound to be crucial in our lives for years to come.
The IAM Employee Assistance and Addiction Services Program is asking for Veteran Members to fill out a contact information form to develop a better consensus of our Veteran membership and those who may need more support now and in the future.
As time continues changes of leadership are something that can and will occur. With that being said Mark Ward, our former Grand Lodge Representative has resigned from his position. In his place will be assigned James Watson as Local Lodge 47’s Grand Lodge Representative. In this position he will manage our representational responsibilities, grievance handling, contract administration, and organizing efforts. For any further question or concerns refer to the PDF attached below, where GLR James Watson’s contact information can be found. He looks forward to helping our membership and representing us at the Grand Lodge.
It has been decided by Local leadership that a July meeting, on Saturday the 11th at 10 a.m., would be something that members could attend at the Local 47 hall. Mask and social distancing of six feet at minimum are expected of our members, to ensure the safety of all our members. As always we look forward to see our members once again.
In the midst of the global pandemic, it has been decided by the IAM Executive Council that it is in the best interest of the membership to postponed this years 40th Grand Lodge Convection, which was originally from September 6 till the 11, to September 12 to the 17 of 2021 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Resort.
In the words of our IAM International President, Robert Martinez:
“This decision was not made lightly and our Executive Council shares in the disappointment we all have about not being able to join together as one union at our convention this year …, I want to especially thank General Vice President Gary R. Allen, the Western Territory and the 2020 Host Committee for all the work they have done to prepare for this convention.”
“I am also extremely grateful for our membership’s patience as we continue to navigate this extraordinary time and the challenges it poses to our union,” said Martinez. “For now, your health is our paramount concern, but I very much look forward to the convention in 2021 and continuing the democratic traditions of our union. Stay safe, stay strong, stay united—together, in solidarity, we shall overcome.”
As the world changes day by day, we have too slowly begin to modify how things were once done. In order to maintain the health and safety of all our members, meetings have been cancelled till the month of June. This also means picking our delegates for the 2020 Grand Lodge Convention has changed. Some of the suggestions offered by IAM Leadership have been to:
- Nominate and vote for delegates and alternative delegates through mail.
- Submit proposed changes to Local Lodge’s Committee on
the Revision of the Constitution by mail.
- Propose resolutions to the Local Lodge’s executive board by mail.
These are simply recommendation by IAM leadership. If it does not contradict social distancing directives and the Local Lodge Executive Board come to an agreement that membership can meet safely in person and utilize the procedures within Official Circulars 874, 875 and 876. A Lodge does not follow the regular procedures, it is recommended that they follow the alternate procedures that have been suggested.
As layoffs have become somewhat commonplace due to the circumstances of the world we’re living in. There are measures in place to help our Brothers and Sisters affected. Thankfully due to our Constitution in Article G, Section 3. When a member is laid off they have two months to claim unemployment stamps from their Local Lodge. If this is not done then there will be a lapse of membership. It has also been decided that the $1 charge, that is transmitted by our Lodge in pursuit of Article G, Section 2, shall be waived. This is also an election year within our Union. If members have been routinely paying dues from April 1st through September 31st, they will maintain the right to vote through November. For more clarification the original Memo by our President Robert Martinez will be attached below.
The world is changing at a pace that is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate. That means that not only ourselves, but as well as our employers have to navigate an unsure future in a falling economy. Thankful the United States Treasury Department and Small Business Administration have stepped in order to offer help, in the form of loans to small businesses in order to prevent layoffs. Our goal with sharing this information is the hope that our Representatives share this with their employers before speculations of layoffs begin. Attached below is a Memo written by our President Robert Martinez with further information and sources.
So that all may be aware. Meetings at our hall are to be postponed until further notice. This is of course done for the safety of all members. We hope that all our members are taking the right precautions in these uncertain times. Hopefully you are all staying healthy and keeping others safe as well.
